Introducing Julianne Desjardins

Hi everyone! I am so excited to get to know you over the next few months with my time at Dream on Youth. I hope each and every one of you reaches out to me at some point so we can talk and get to know each other! But I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself right now.

I am currently a third year student in college and am studying Journalism and am planning on declaring a minor for next semester in either Political Science or History. I grew up in New York and have amazing parents, an older brother who I seriously look up to (don’t tell him that, though) and the cutest yellow lab you will ever see. I may only be slightly biased on that last point.

All of my life I have absolutely adored writing and reading. I am still that girl who would rather cuddle up on the couch with a good book rather than watch television. Now, there is an exception to this, which I’ll get to later.

Books are just so much more magical than any movie could ever be. Reading lets you paint your own picture, and make the characters and settings whatever you want them to be. The same magic can come from writing, where you can express your feelings to make yourself feel better and hopefully have that same effect on someone else.

So, now onto that exception that I was talking about earlier. Well, there are a couple actually. First is that I have a slight obsession with Gilmore Girls, but let’s be honest, who doesn’t?! And I’m not just talking about slightly obsessed. I am talking about being as obsessed with that show as you could possibly be. I have even watched it ten times. Yes, you read that right. TEN. And no, I’m not sorry or ashamed and no, it never gets old.

The next exception is baseball. Now I will admit, I haven’t been in love with baseball forever. I actually didn’t fall in love with it until six years ago. But let me tell you, ever since I did, it has taken over my life completely. I don’t just turn on the television to a baseball game when my favorite team, the New York Mets, are playing. I will literally watch any team that is playing. I just love baseball too much to not watch any when the Mets have an off day. Baseball is one of the most magical things you will ever get to experience. It takes a hold of you in a way that I can’t even describe. I love it with every ounce of my being and it has been there for me every moment these past six years, even in the offseason.

The main reason falling in love with baseball has shaped me is because it helped me decide what I want to do when I graduate college. I always knew that I wanted to do some kind of writing, but I never knew what exactly I should write about. Then, I fell in love with baseball. Ever since that moment, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I want to be either a sports reporter or work on social media for a professional baseball team, particularly the Mets.

Lastly, I absolutely love music. Like really love it. There is nothing more satisfying than curling up on the couch on a rainy day and listening to some sad songs, dancing around your room to Taylor Swift or belting out Christmas music in October (yes, I’m one of those people).

Well, that’s pretty much all you need to know about me! I would love to hear more about you or answer any questions you may have, so please reach out to me at any time!

Have a great weekend or week, whenever you’re reading this!
