Good Vibes: A Playlist
There isn’t a day for me that doesn’t start or end with music. Spotify is probably my most used app on my phone and I even use it to play music while I’m sleeping. The only time I’m most likely not listening to music is when I’m at work. I promise this isn’t a sponsored post for Spotify; I honestly do love it. I'd like to say that I have an eclectic music taste, not confined to any particular genres or artists. So, today, I’ve created a playlist for your listening pleasure, a playlist that reflects what I like to listen to while I’m creating my next DOY blog post or editing my next post for Instagram. And, in celebration of this post, below I’ve listed a few featured artists on the playlist.
Come Over - The Internet
I was introduced to The Internet by a friend when I lived in Chicago and I instantly fell in love with their sound. I particularly love “Come Over” because its sound reminds of good old 90’s R&B. The guitar, bass and harmonies in this song were key reasons why I became obsessed with this song. Also, the visuals in their music video for this song made me love this song even more. Here’s the link, may you fall in love with it too!
Like I Do - Christina Aguilera ft. GoldLink
Keeping in line with my 90s mood, we have our late 90s pop chart-topping queen, Christina Aguilera. Now, she absolutely does not need an introduction, but I’m just here to let you all know that she has a new song out. It is also my duty to let you all know that it is one of my new jams. In this song, rapper, GoldLink, sets the vibe for the song with his rhyme influencing your shoulders to start rocking left and right. Then our queen (internally screams), Christina, enters the song with her angelic, yet sexy voice and lets everyone know that we can’t ever do it like she does. Is she wrong though? I think NOT! Definitely give this song a listen and you’ll soon realize why it made it onto this playlist.
The Kids Are Alright - Chloe x Halle
Chloe x Halle are two of my personal favorites since their start on YouTube and I was blown away by their cover of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts.” I was a bit surprised that after such success on the number of views on that video that they seemed to disappear. Well, SURPRISE, they disappeared for a little bit because they had caught the attention of Queen Bey herself and were signed to her label. Now, Chloe x Halle have released new music and I am not disappointed! The Kids Are Alright is a song that I especially enjoy editing to because its melody is calming, yet the song has such powerful lyrics. This is definitely an anthem to the youth to remind us all to create and pursue our own path.
Hi-Lo (Hollow) - Bishop Briggs
I’d just like to say that I recently went to L.A. and I was so disappointed to find out the day I landed that Bishop Briggs had a show there and I just happened to miss the opportunity of being granted eternal life by witnessing her sing live. Now that I have unnecessarily vented my gloom, I want to mention that when I first heard Bishop Briggs, my jaw dropped to the floor. If beauty were to have a voice, Bishop’s would be it. Her voice carries you through such a wonderful, majestic and rich musical journey. She’s capable of leading this song from the low ranges at the beginning all the way to her majestic belting. This song is one of my favorites, but definitely not my only favorite of hers. Once you hear this song, listen to the rest of her album. You’ll be granted eternal life and, if not, then you at least can say you’ve witnessed an angel sing.
Genius - LSD
If you didn’t know that Sia, Diplo and Labrinth formed a super group called LSD, well, now you do! They will soon be releasing new music later this year and I could not be more excited! Up to now they have only released two songs, and both songs are absolute bangers and amazing. This song definitely upholds its name as it’s a GENIUS work of art! The song begins with an amazing instrumental of cellos and the voice of Labrinth leading the way before Sia appears to lay down our edges with her magical vocal gel and comb. I personally love how each artist name is introduced similar to a retro video game when the player’s name is announced as if each artist is about to slay the track and spoiler alert: THEY DO! Lastly, this song has been a must for me every morning when preparing to get ready for work so, if you need a good beat to wake you up and sing along to, this is it!
Get Free - Major Lazer
Fun fact, I actually heard this song for the first time in the bathroom of a restaurant. I was minding my own business, this song started to play and it just happened to hypnotize me. Its Rasta vibes and female (ghost) singer’s voice is perfection. This song quickly became one of my go-to songs while I drive to work. I love it’s easy to rock to beat that allows you to just let your thoughts and/or creativity wander.
Now, although I’ve chosen to highlight these songs on this post, there’s still a lot more songs that I listen to while I write and/or edit photos. If you’d like to listen to more songs that range from indie, jazz, alternative rock, EDM and pop and check out the artists I’ve featured, click the link and listen to the Good Vibes playlist that I have crafted for all of you. I hope you all enjoy these jams and add them to your personal playlists
