Wanderlust: Local Savory and Sweet Shops
I'm not sure about anyone else, but I know that some of my favorite weekend activities involve food. Living in such a small town in Central New York, any of my restaurant adventures lead me to Ithaca, only 20 minutes away. I most certainly seem to be drawn more towards dessert than anything else, and Ithaca most certainly obliges.
My love for sweet treats often takes me to Purity Ice Cream, a local ice creamery with an 80 year history of fresh ice cream and the rumored birthplace of the sundae. Along with fresh ice cream and waffle cones, Purity certainly has something for everyone, as they also make from scratch pies, cupcakes, and muffins. This shop is most definitely one to visit if in Ithaca.
Continuing on with the lovely sweet food options in Ithaca, Waffle Frolic is a must try, offering sweet and savory fresh waffles. Personally, I love a warm waffle with chocolate syrup and ice cream, but chicken and waffles and gluten-free waffles are also available. With all of their ingredients and toppings being locally sourced, this is clearly feel good food.
Bringing it back closer to home, my town has one remarkable little restaurant, Bun Appetit. A cute little bakery situated on Main Street, Bun Appetit has some of the best breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. Nothing compares to a hot cup of Finger Lakes coffee and a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. With everything being freshly made, I highly recommend a stop at Bun Appetit.
If you ever find yourself in the Finger Lakes region, make sure to check out these few little gems.
