Read: WomanCode

When I first heard of that this month’s theme was all about girl power, a book instantly came to mind. Allow me to introduce you to WomanCode: Perfect Your Cycle, Amplify Your Fertility, Supercharge Your Sex Drive, and Become a Power Source.

Yeah, it’s that kind of book.

So often, when we talk about girl power, it focuses on external, mental, and physical issues like they are all separate entities when really they are all just branches of this massive tree that is the life of a woman- your life.

In this book, Alisa Vitti (holistic health coach) explains how issues related to menstrual cycles (PCOS, endometriosis, PMS, etc.), physical ones (acne, chronic fatigue, etc.), and even sexual ones (low libido, etc.), are all connected. Think self-help book meets self-realization, all packaged up nicely and in a way that has already done the hard work of getting you to that epiphany moment of, “yes, my body makes sense now!”

She gives you the tools and knowledge to take your body back, and while it’s not necessarily easy work (diet and lifestyle changes), you are given the best of modern medicine and holistic nutrition to start living that my-body-is-a-temple-life and achieve hormone zen (spoiler: it all comes down to your hormones).

After ten years of relying on that blister-pack of synthetic hormones to manage the symptoms of my irregular cycle and endometriosis, I had this unwavering idea in my head that birth control was my only solution (save a hysterectomy, which let’s be real: that's not really an option, is it?). When I stumbled upon this book, my entire world was obliterated. The words read like a diary entry my subconscious had written explaining all of the things I felt, but also like an instruction manual: this was my way out.

My life was suddenly in bloom; the advent of technicolor was nothing but a warm-up to what life could be when you are suddenly the one managing the garden that is your body, and I firmly believe that you all should feel as much yourself as I do.

Give it a read, and allow yourself the chance to blossom.
