A Letter to My Future Self

A Letter to My Future Self

Take a deep breath. Stretch your legs, get out of bed and walk around a bit, get the blood flowing. Take a shower, even if you already have, and wash off your insecurities, your doubts, your fears.  Get into some comfortable clothes and relax, don’t forget those deep breaths I mentioned earlier! Put your phone down, it will still be there when you need it.

Remember, everything going through your mind is not reality, you’re letting your thoughts run wild and they’re overwhelming you.  The voices in your head mean nothing unless you give them meaning.

Make yourself a cup of coffee; pick up that book you started but never finished, take out a notebook and start writing. Find a way to comfort your mind, settle your thoughts and put you at ease.  Stop torturing yourself and just breathe.

I need you to remember who you are and who you are not. You are not insignificant.  You are not ignored. You are not needy, or overbearing. You are valued, you are rare and you have a heart that's too big for this world to fully grasp.  Your spirit sprints faster than most and sometimes people have a hard time keeping up.  They don't always recognize your beauty because you are light years beyond their ability of comprehension. It's not your fault, it's not their fault.  In time, people will see the spark you possess. People will understand. Until then I don't want you to give in. I don't want you to conform. I don't want you to ever feel the need to mold yourself to their idea of who you should be. Take inspiration from wild horses.  They run where the wind takes them and let it course through their entire being. Be free with who you are, like a wild horse with nowhere to go but where the wind and grassy fields take them. Don't be bound anyone, including yourself.

If I'm not sitting in front of my laptop typing out the next great American novel then you'll probably find me curled up in bed devouring a book. I grew up in a ballet studio finding it best to express myself through the graceful movement. I'm currently trying to live up to Taylor Swift's ideal image of what 22 should look like while encouraging others to follow their dreams.  A successful night for me is fulled with good food, laughter, conversations about everything and nothing, and did I mention food? I'm at my happiest singing along to my favorite songs with artists that inspire me, opening my heart up on stage and having meaningful conversations with good friends.
